Dual Motion Plate

Analyze every detail

The Dual Motion Plate provides you the most information of all the Swing Catalyst products. It gives you access to all the same force plate information as the Motion Plate system, including total horizontal shear force, vertical force, and torque. Additionally, with the Dual Motion Plate you are able to study the individual horizontal shear forces, the individual vertical forces, and the individual free moment (twisting forces) produced by each foot.

The Dual Motion Plate also provides all the same information as our Balance Plate. This includes the pressure heat mapping under each foot, stance width data, the location of the individual center of pressure (CoP) on each foot as well as the line joining them, and the percentage of pressure under each foot.

As with all of our sensor plates, the Dual Motion Plate data is perfectly synchronized with high-speed video images and data from the most popular launch monitors in the Swing Catalyst software.

Ground reaction forces

The Swing Catalyst Dual Motion Plate measures the individual contributions of each foot in producing the ground reaction forces necessary for efficient golf swings. The system will also add up the contributions of each individual foot to give you the same information provided by our single Motion plate. You will also get the position and movement/trace of the total Center of Pressure (CoP) throughout the swing.

Some new features of the Dual Motion Plate system include the fact you can now see how the right and left leg are working to produce the total horizontal (front/back) force. Near the top of the backswing, the trail leg (right leg for right handed golfers) is pushing away from the target, while the lead leg (left leg for right handed golfers) is pulling in the same direction. With the Dual Motion Plate, you can determine how each leg is sharing the work of producing this horizontal force and optimize it for each individual player.

You can also see all the individual forces that go into producing the torque (plate) that is provided by the single Motion Plate system. These include the individual horizontal (toe/heel) shear forces as well as the individual torque (person) or free/twisting moments coming from each foot during the downswing.

The individual contributions (right and left) to the vertical force can also be determined in order to optimize this ratio for each player to produce the desired impact conditions.

Pressure Distribution and Stance Width

The pressure distribution accurately depicts which part of your feet is pressuring the ground at each instant in the swing. This means that you can easily spot whether you are leaning too far back (on your heels), forward (on your toes), on the lateral (outside part) of your foot, or on the medial (inside part) of your foot. This can provide some valuable information related to the golfer’s ability or inability to produce certain ground reaction forces. It also provides information about the percentage of pressure under your left and right foot at any part of the swing. This helps you understand how much each leg is contributing to producing the golf swing motions, and can be tailored/optimized for every golfer.

The Swing Catalyst Dual Motion Plate also provides an accurate measurement of stance width, calculated from the distance between the center of pressure of each foot. The distance between the golfer’s feet helps determine the types of ground reaction forces, and hence the motions they will be capable of producing, so the Dual Motion Plate can be used to dial in the optimal stance width for every golfer.

Center of Pressure and Swing Pattern

Swing Catalyst calculates three different center of pressure (CoP) measurements throughout the golf swing. These are the CoP of the right foot, the CoP of the left foot, and the total CoP. The total CoP is represented by a large white dot and is closely related to the Center of Gravity (CoG), but they are not the same. You can watch the level 1 Swing Catalyst certification videos online to learn more about the difference between the CoP and center of mass/center of gravity. The path the total CoP follows throughout the swing is drawn over the period of a registered swing. As the video is automatically synced with the CoP pattern (even if the bookmarks are not set correctly), you can closely study any subtle movements or inconsistencies while scrolling the video back and forth. This enables the user to pinpoint which sections of a swing show irregularities, with extreme accuracy.

The software also calculates the individual CoP location within each foot, and these are represented by small white dots. The small white dots are also joined by a thin grey line. This thin grey line can give us much information about how the golfer is dynamically “aiming” their pressures and can influence the direction the club takes as it approaches the golf ball…
