3D Motion Plate

Motion Plate

Visualize the invisible!

The Swing Catalyst Motion Plate is our flagship swing analysis system, already used by many of the best coaches in the world.

The Motion Plate is a unique combination of our state-of-the-art pressure plate technology (Balance Plate) and a highly advanced force plate. Not only can you study detailed foot pressure data and CoP patterns, but the Motion Plate also provides horizontal and vertical force measurements. From this, we measure the amount of torque- and ground reaction forces generated during a golf swing.

All Motion Plate data is perfectly synchronized with high-speed video images and data from the most popular ball/club tracking devices.

Ground reaction forces

The Swing Catalyst Motion Plate is a unique product as it measures both the pressures (balance plate) and three-dimensional ground reaction forces (force plate) acting between your feet and the ground.

The Motion plate measures ground forces

Pressure Distribution and Stance Width

The pressure distribution accurately depicts which part of your feet is pressuring the ground at each instant in the swing. This means that you can easily spot whether you are leaning too far back (on your heels), forward (on your toes), on the lateral (or outside part) of your foot, or on the medial (on inside part) of your foot. This can provide some valuable information related to the golfer’s ability/or inability to produce certain ground reaction forces. It also provides information about the percentage of pressure under your left and right foot at any part of the swing. This helps to understand how much each leg is contributing to producing the golf swing motions and can be tailored/optimized for every golfer. The Swing Catalyst Balance Plate also provides an accurate measurement of stance width, calculated from the distance between the center of pressure of each foot. The distance the golfer’s feet are apart helps determine the types of ground reaction forces, and hence motions they will be capable of producing, so the balance plate can be used to dial in the optimal stance width for every golfer.

The Motion plate also has the Swing Catalyst Balance Plate

Center of Pressure and Swing Pattern

Swing Catalyst calculates three different center of pressure (CoP) measurements throughout the golf swing. These are the CoP of the right foot, the CoP of the left foot, and the total CoP. The total CoP is represented by a large white dot and it closely related to the Center of Gravity (CoG), but they are not the same. You can watch the level 1 Swing Catalyst certification videos online to learn more about the difference between the CoP and center of mass/center of gravity. The path the total CoP follows throughout the swing is drawn over the period of a registered swing. As the video is automatically synced with the CoP pattern (even if the bookmarks are not set correctly), you can closely study any subtle movements or inconsistencies while scrolling the video back and forth. This enables the user to pinpoint which sections of a swing show irregularities, with extreme accuracy.

The software also calculated the individual CoP location within each foot, and these are represented by small white dots. The small white dots are also joined by a think grey line. This thin grey line can give us much information about how the golfer is dynamically “aiming” their pressures and can influence the direction the club takes as it approaches the golf ball…

Video and data synchronization

All Motion Plate data is automatically synced perfectly with the video images and ball/club tracking data.
