Dual Force Plate

Visualize the invisible!

The Swing Catalyst Dual Force Plate provides independent information about the contribution of the left and right foot in developing the ground reaction forces (GRFs) necessary to produce powerful and accurate golf shots.

The Dual Force Plate gives you access to all the same force plate information as the Motion Plate, including total horizontal shear force, vertical force, and torque. Additionally, with the Dual Force Plate, you are able to study the individual horizontal shear forces, the individual vertical forces, and the individual free moment (twisting forces) produced by each foot. The Dual Force Plate also provides the location of the individual center of pressure (CoP) on each foot as well as the line joining them.

As with all of our sensor plates, the Dual Force Plate data is perfectly synchronized with high-speed video images and data from the most popular launch monitors in the Swing Catalyst software.

Ground reaction forces

The Swing Catalyst Dual Force Plates measure the individual contributions of each foot in producing the ground reaction forces necessary for efficient golf swings. The system will also add up the contributions of each individual foot to give you the same information provided by the force plate component of our single plate 3D Motion plate. You will also get the position and movement/trace of the total Center of Pressure (CoP) throughout the swing.

The 3D Motion plate measures ground forces

Pressure Distribution and Stance Width

It also provides information about the percentage of vertical force produced by your left and right foot at any part of the swing. This helps to understand how much each leg is contributing to producing the golf swing motions and can be tailored/optimized for every golfer. The Swing Catalyst Dual Force Plate system will also provide an accurate measurement of stance width, calculated from the distance between the center of pressure of each foot. The distance between the golfer’s feet apart help determine the types of ground reaction forces, and hence motions they will be capable of producing, so the Dual Force Plate system can be used to dial in the optimal stance width for every golfer.

The Dual Force plates give you Pressure Distribution

Center of Pressure and Swing Pattern

The Swing Catalyst Dual Force Plate provides the positions of three different center of pressure (CoP) measurements throughout the golf swing. These are the CoP of the right foot, the CoP of the left foot, and the total CoP. The location of the total CoP is represented by a large white dot and if the golfer is standing still, will be in essentially the same positions as the Center of Mass/Gravity (CoM or CoG), but when the golfer is in motion, these can be in very different places. You can watch the Swing Catalyst Level 1 Certification videos online to learn more about the difference between the CoP and CoM/CoG. The path the total CoP follows throughout the swing is drawn over the period of a registered swing. As the video is automatically synced with the CoP pattern (even if the bookmarks are not set correctly), you can closely study any subtle movements or inconsistencies while scrolling the video back and forth. This enables the user to pinpoint which sections of a swing show irregularities, with extreme accuracy.

The software also calculates the individual CoP location within each foot, and these are represented by small white dots. The small white dots are joined by a thin grey line. This thin grey line can give us much information about how the golfer is dynamically “aiming” their pressures and can influence the direction the club takes as it approaches the golf ball.

Video and data synchronization

All Dual Force Plate data is automatically synced perfectly with the video images and ball/club tracking data.
