About us
Initial Force AS was established in September 2006 with the goal of developing an easy to understand, simple to use, yet highly sophisticated motion analysis system primarily for sports training and coaching. Our goal involved integrating force plate technology to receive biomechanical feedback, providing sophisticated data for the user. Previously this type of data was only available via high-end research facilities, Olympic training centers or advanced university sports laboratories. The results of our endeavors lead to the development of Swing Catalyst, a revolutionary new technological system for golf training which integrates the unique Swing Catalyst 3D motion plate,
multiple high speed cameras and ball tracking devices.Swing Catalyst’s most important features today is the groundbreaking 3D motion plate system, and how this technology collects critical data relative to the “rotational forces” an athlete generates. These rotational forces are interestingly used in several other sports. Much of our research was developed in association with the Norwegian Olympic Support Committee (Olympiatoppen), specifically the Norwegian ski jumping team. The Norwegian ski jumpers were using a similar force plate system to train prior to the Torino Olympics, which produced tremendous success, as Lars Bystøl of Norway earned the gold medal at the 2006 Olympics.
The Swing Catalyst project was initially led by NTNU Technology Transfer, a technology transfer office (TTO) at the prestigious Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. Employees of NTNU Technology Transfer later joined forces with representatives from the Norwegian Olympic Support Committee and NTNU to establish Initial Force AS.
The first 3 years of research and development took place at Innovasjonssenter Gløshaugen, a business incubator located at the NTNU city campus in Trondheim (see picture). Most of the development and testing was conducted at the Motion Analysis Lab at NTNU, a laboratory well known for its competence in advanced sport technologies. The development team consisted of experienced professors within biomechanics and local PGA professionals. The main goal was to develop a complete and user friendly game improvement system for golfers.
Initial Force AS is today located at Trondheim Golf Senter (TGS), Norway, and is still enjoying a close relationship with the highly competent staff at NTNU, local and international PGA professionals and not to forget our customers that help us understand the needs of modern golfers.
